Tobias Liebezeit was born in Wuppertal in 1967. He studied percussion with Stephan Froleyks at the Musikhochschule Münster and with Markus Hauke at the Konservatorium Mainz; masterclasses with Robyn Schulkowsky and Matthias Kaul were added to this. He received scholarships from the Darmstädter Ferienkurse für Neue Musik and the Gesellschaft für Westfälische Kulturarbeit as well as the Förderpreis der Stadt Düsseldorf in 2001. His focus lies on experimental music and on world premieres and first performances. Since 1997 he has been a member of the Barton Workshop in Amsterdam, with which he has recorded works by John Cage, Morton Feldman, Christian Wolff, James Tenney, Philip Corner, Radu Malfatti and Frank Denyer, among others. In the Cybele catalogue he can be heard as a percussionist on the album notabu.ensemble neue musik plays works by Günther Becker (1996).
