Born in Detroit on 2 January 1957; Wyn Cooper is a poet. He earned his BA at the University of Utah in 1979 and his MA at Hollins College in 1981. His first collection, “The Country of Here Below”, appeared from Ahsahta Press in 1987, followed among others by “Postcards from the Interior” (2005) and “Chaos Is the New Calm” (2010) from BOA Editions. He has taught at the University of Utah, Bennington College, Marlboro College and The Frost Place; in 2003 the CD “Forty Words for Fear” appeared, with songs based on his poems and lyrics, made with the novelist Madison Smartt Bell, and he has co-written songs with David Broza, David Baerwald and Jody Redhage. On the gala recording Doc Heilein and Friends Gala 2021 – Joyful (2022) Levin Blümel and Leslie Jost sing “All I Wanna Do”, whose lyrics go back to his poem “Fun”: he wrote it in 1984 as a student in Utah, and in 1993 Bill Bottrell and Kevin Gilbert discovered the collection in a used bookstore in Pasadena.
