Baritone born in Israel; his parents had emigrated from Germany. He studied in Tel Aviv, Munich and Italy; his teachers and mentors included Ernst Haefliger and Malcolm King. On the opera stage he has sung in works by Gluck, Mozart, Verdi, Berg and Shostakovich, among others; as a Lieder singer he has worked with pianists such as Christoph Eschenbach, Robert Levin and Axel Bauni, and his CD recordings include songs by Viktor Ullmann, Boris Blacher and Wolfgang Rihm, among others. In 1997 he became a professor at the Hochschule des Saarlandes für Musik und Theater in Saarbrücken; in the early 2000s he also directed the opera studio of the New Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv. On the album Rolf Riehm: Orchestral Works (2005) he sings, with Ksenija Lukic and Christoph Späth, the baritone part in “Leonce und und …”, the second of Riehm’s Bach paraphrases “Die Erde ist eine Schale von dunkelm Gold”.
