Alfred Alings was a percussionist and tam-tam player of the early Cologne scene for new music. The chronicle of the Darmstädter Ferienkurse documents him in 1967 in the Stockhausen-Ensemble together with Aloys Kontarsky, Johannes Fritsch, Harald Bojé, Rolf Gehlhaar and Karlheinz Stockhausen: on 26 August he played the tam-tam in “Mikrophonie I”, on 27 August in “Prozession”, together with Rolf Gehlhaar, likewise the tam-tam. At the Ferienkurse of 1968 he took part with Rolf Gehlhaar as percussionist in Stockhausen’s “Musik für ein Haus”. A photograph of 1968 from the circle of the Stockhausen-Ensemble likewise shows Alings alongside these musicians. On Cybele he can be heard as percussionist on Günther Becker: Collected Works – Electroacoustic Music (2004) and Feedback Studio Köln Vol. 10 – Johannes Fritsch: Live-Electronic Music (2011).
