Born in Rimbach in the Odenwald in 1905, died in New York in 1956; Erich Itor Kahn was a German-American composer and pianist. In his sixteenth year he entered the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt am Main, graduating in 1928; he then worked at Radio Frankfurt as assistant director and pianist under Hans Rosbaud, taking part there in broadcasts of music by Arnold Schönberg, Igor Strawinsky, Anton Webern and Bela Bartok. In 1933 he emigrated to Paris with his wife, the pianist Frida Rabinowitsch; after internments in French camps he reached the USA in 1941. In New York he worked as a chamber music pianist, among others in the Albeneri Trio. Between 1930 and 1954 some forty works were written, in which he used serial technique following Schönberg. In the Cybele catalogue his piano works are represented by an album of their own: Thomas Günther recorded Erich Itor Kahn: Piano Works in 2007.
