Erik Lund

Composer

Born in 1958; Erik Lund is a composer and trombonist. He earned the Bachelor of Music at Northern Illinois University and the Master and Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Illinois, where he taught composition and music theory; today he is professor emeritus there. His works have received awards from the League of Composers, the International Society for Contemporary Music and ASCAP, and have been supported by grants from the Musik-Biennale Berlin, Meet the Composer, ASCAP, the Illinois Arts Council and the University of Illinois Research Board. They have been performed by the Arditti Quartet, the Crash Ensemble and the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana, among others; as a trombonist he has recorded with Anthony Braxton and Vinko Globokar. He sees composing as a series of analogies, commentaries and meditations on the world in which we live. On the Cybele album Harmonies and Counterpoints between Germany and America (1999) he is represented with “Raccontini” (1996), little musical stories for the Wolpe-Trio in which stamping, standing up and composed eye contact hint at the tales.
