Wolpe-Trio

Ensemble (trio)

Trio founded in 1992 by Lesley Olson, Scott Roller and Susanne Achilles in the scoring of flute, cello and piano; named after Stefan Wolpe, with a repertoire of new music and first performances. On 30 September 1998 the trio gave the first performance in Essen of Kaija Saariaho’s “Cendres” for alto flute, cello and piano, a work commissioned by the city of Essen. In 2004 an album of chamber music by Kaija Saariaho appeared on the Kairos label, including “Cendres”, “NoaNoa”, “Mirrors”, “Laconisme de l’aile” and “Petals”; for it Thomas Neuhaus (live electronics) and Andreas Boettger (percussion and live electronics) expanded the line-up. In the trio Lesley Olson plays the alto flute; the cellist Scott Roller also belonged to the Ensemble gelberklang, which in 2003 recorded his piece “Serraval” for violin and cello. Three albums connect the trio with Cybele. Its portrait album Harmonies and Counterpoints between Germany and America (1999) gathers works by Stefan Wolpe, Erik Lund, Dietrich Hahne, Scott Roller and Manfred Stahnke; in Johannes Fritsch’s 3 Trios (2006) it plays the first of the three pieces, and it also takes part in Fritsch’s Early Chamber Music (2011). Both Fritsch albums belong to the Feedback Studio Köln series.
