Founded in 1808; the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester plays the performances of the Oper Frankfurt and the Museumskonzerte of the Frankfurter Museums-Gesellschaft. The magazine Opernwelt has voted it orchestra of the year several times, most recently three times in succession. It gave the premieres of works by Richard Strauss and Paul Hindemith. Former general music directors include Georg Solti, Michael Gielen and Sebastian Weigle; the current general music director is Thomas Guggeis, whom Opernwelt honoured as conductor of the year.
