Born in Reichenbach in Lower Silesia in 1963, died in Israel in 2023; Friedhelm Hans Hartmann, also known under the name Freed, was a German composer. He studied contemporary composition in Dresden with Manfred Weiss and Udo Zimmermann, then with Georg Katzer in Berlin and at the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media in Essen. In his work he developed a computer-assisted language of sound and composition of his own. Electronic music, live electronics, instrumental works and music theatre form a varied field between structure, sonic imagination and performative energy.
