Born 1936 in Wiesbaden, died 2019 in Meersburg; Hans Zender was a German composer, conductor and music theorist. He studied piano, composition and conducting in Frankfurt and Freiburg, with Wolfgang Fortner among others. His career took him to Bonn, Kiel and Hamburg as general music director and to the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken as chief conductor. In parallel he developed a body of work that joins historical music, language and the present in reinterpretations of his own.
