Born 1960 in Buenos Aires; Javier Alejandro Garavaglia is an Italian-Argentine composer, viola player and sound artist. After studies in Buenos Aires and at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen, where he pursued further training in composition and electronic music, he has lived and worked in Essen since 1990. For his compositions he received the Folkwang Prize in 1995 and the TRIMARG Prize in 1997, among other distinctions. His works bring together instrumental music, live electronics, digital sound synthesis and spatial sound design in a deliberately interdisciplinary practice.
