Michael Rotschopf

Born on 28 October 1969 in Lienz in Tyrol; Michael Rotschopf is an actor and speaker. From 1989 to 1993 he trained as an actor at the Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna, and from 1993 to 1995 studied singing in the Arnold Schoenberg Chor. From 1992 he was a permanent member of the Vienna Burgtheater ensemble for five years; further stations were the Schauspiel Frankfurt and regular appearances at the Salzburger Festspiele, among them the title role of “Dreigroschenoper” in 2015. He worked with directors such as Peter Stein, Adolf Dresen and Matthias Hartmann. In 1996 he received the O.-E.-Hasse-Preis of the Akademie der Künste Berlin, later the Grimme-Preis among others. As a speaker he has appeared internationally in Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s “Requiem für einen jungen Dichter” in New York, Paris, London and Berlin; he also works as a speaker for radio plays and audiobooks. Three albums connect him with Cybele, and all of them live from the voice. He is Speaker I in the recording of Zimmermann’s Requiem für einen jungen Dichter (2008), which received the MIDEM Classical Award 2010 as Recording of the Year – the very work that has also taken him onto international concert platforms. To these are added two productions of the label’s audiobook series: Ich möchte lachen vor Todesschmerz on Robert Schumann’s last journey (2005) alongside Lutz Lansemann, and Als hätte die Stille Türen after Urs Faes (2006).
