Nikola Lutz

Saxophone / Composer

* 1970; German saxophonist, composer and media artist; she studied saxophone in 1989/90 with Jean-Marie Londeix in Bordeaux and from 1992 to 1996 with Bernd Konrad in Stuttgart. In 2001 she founded the Stuttgarter Saxophonfestival, and in 2015 she was a co-founder of the Stuttgarter Kollektiv für aktuelle Musik. In 2010 she won the 1st Prize and the Audience Prize at the International Saxophone Competition in Paris. Since 2006 she has taught classical saxophone at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart, since 2017 as honorary professor. In 2018 she founded the duo YonX with César Bernal (double bass); she also works with electronic composition and net art. On the album Jean-Pierre Leguay: Jubilus (2024) she plays Leguay’s “Le matin sûrement va venir” for alto saxophone, piano and percussion with the pianist Sabine Sauer and the percussionist Lucas Gerin.
