Born on 16 October 1997; Romeo Merz is a speaker in Cybele’s word-and-music productions. He comes from a family of musicians; his mother is the soprano Caroline Merz. In the audiobook Arnold Schönberg: Die Prinzessin (2008) he spoke the Wolf, alongside Tara Wiesemann in the title role and Lorenzo Liebetanz as the Red Fox and the Grandmother. The three re-enacted Schönberg’s story “Die Prinzessin” and also retold “Afrika”; Schönberg had recorded both stories for his children on a wire recorder in the 1940s. At the end of the audiobook he and Tara Wiesemann read quotations by and about Arnold Schönberg. His recordings were made on 18 August 2007 at the Cybele Studios in Düsseldorf, and Mirjam Wiesemann spoke the interpolated texts. In 2009, as Romeo I, he was the children’s carnival prince of the state capital Düsseldorf. One album connects him with Cybele; it received the ECHO Klassik 2009 and the LEOPOLD media prize 2009/2010.
