Born 1953 in Bucharest; Violeta Dinescu is a Romanian-German composer, pianist and teacher. She studied composition, piano and education at the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest and completed her training with distinction. Since 1982 she has lived and worked in Germany; from 1996 to 2021 she was professor of applied composition at the University of Oldenburg. Her work comprises chamber and orchestral music, music theatre, ballet and film music, and joins precise sound design to a marked sense of poetic dramaturgy.
