Französische Komponistinnen – Musik für Violine und Klavier brings together four works by Louise Farrenc, Lili Boulanger and Pauline Viardot-Garcia. Farrenc’s Sonata No. 2 in A major op. 39 opens the programme, followed by Boulanger’s concentrated Nocturne.
Pauline Viardot-Garcia is represented by the Sonatina in A minor and the Six Morceaux. The recording thus combines large-scale sonata form, short character pieces and a sequence of miniatures for violin and piano.
Annette-Barbara Vogel and Ayako Tsuruta shape the programme as a multifaceted sequence for two equal voices. The recording was made in December 2001 in the Clapp Recital Hall at the University of Iowa.
