Born in Siemianowice Slaskie in Poland in 1963; Christian Banasik is a German composer with a focus on electroacoustic music. He studied composition with Günther Becker and Dimitri Terzakis at the Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf, attended seminars in computer music with Clarence Barlow in Cologne and studied composition with Hans Zender as well as conducting in Frankfurt am Main. In 1990, together with Ralf R. Ollertz and Marina Panayiotou, he founded the Ensemble Go Ahead for contemporary music; from 1991 to 1993 he developed the algorithmic composition software AFSTS 1 for image- and time-based media. His work comprises soundscapes, live electronics, instrumental and vocal music as well as music for radio, film and dance theatre. He teaches audiovisual design at the Hochschule Düsseldorf and directs the studio for electronic music of the Clara-Schumann-Musikschule Düsseldorf. Three albums connect him with Cybele, two of them in the DEGEM series with which the label documents the work of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Elektroakustische Musik: on DEGEM Vol. 4 – Ausbruch Aufbruch (1998) and DEGEM Vol. 8 – 90 Seconds of Reality (2005) he is represented as a composer and performer, alongside Johannes S. Sistermanns, Heinz-Josef Florian and Georg Katzer. To these is added The Untempered Piano – New Music for Toy Piano (2003), on which Bernd Wiesemann plays new compositions for toy piano and tape, some of them for several instruments at once.
