Herbert Henck

Born in Treysa, today Schwalmstadt, in 1948 and died in Zeven in 2025; Herbert Henck was a German pianist, interpreter of new music and author. He studied piano in Mannheim, Stuttgart and Cologne, with Aloys Kontarsky among others, and worked freelance from 1975. His artistic focus lay on twentieth-century music, whose aesthetic and technical limits he explored as interpreter, improviser and premiere pianist. Recordings of John Cage, Charles Ives, George Antheil and Conlon Nancarrow and his musicological and critical writings attest to the great range of his repertoire and thinking.
