Kilian Schwoon

Composer

Born in Hanover in 1972; Kilian Schwoon is a composer. After his Abitur in 1991 he studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and electronic composition with Dirk Reith and Thomas Neuhaus at the Folkwang-Hochschule Essen from 1992 to 1997, and from 1992 to 1993 also with Walter Zimmermann; in 1997 he graduated with distinction. He took part in courses in Darmstadt (1994 and 1996) and at the Akiyoshidai Festival in Yamaguchi (1995), in 1996 he received a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes, and in 1997/98 he was a DAAD scholar at the Tempo Reale centre for live electronics in Florence, whose artistic director was Luciano Berio. On the Cybele album ex machina Vol. 3 – trans (1997) he is represented with “Orpheus und Demokrit – eine Klaviermusik mit Tonband” (1997), played by Martin von der Heydt; the piece starts out from Democritus’s atomic theory and the fact that even complex piano sounds can be broken down into zeros and ones. For the album he was also responsible for sound direction and production.
