Conductor and violinist from Tyrol; he studied violin at the Mozarteum in Salzburg with Sandor Végh and Helmut Zehetmair and conducting with Michael Gielen. At the age of twenty he made his first international tour with the Austrian Chamber Orchestra, appearing notably at Carnegie Hall in New York; in 1993 he received the prize of the Herbert-von-Karajan-Stiftung for young conductors. From 1998 to 2010 he was music director of the orchestra of the Opéra de Rouen Normandie, thereafter its “chef fondateur”. He has conducted orchestras at the Salzburg Festival and opera productions at the Staatsoper Berlin; in Rouen he directs the chamber music project La Maison Illuminée. On the album Rolf Riehm: Orchestral Works (2005) he conducts the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Saarbrücken with Ksenija Lukic, Christoph Späth and Yaron Windmüller in Riehm’s Bach paraphrases “Die Erde ist eine Schale von dunkelm Gold”.
