Richard P. Hartmann

Dr Richard P. Hartmann, born on 12 June 1935, is the only son of Karl Amadeus and Elisabeth Hartmann. As a Munich gallery owner and editor he founded the series “Richard P. Hartmann Bibliothek”; its first volume, the graphic portfolio “Epitaph Karl Amadeus Hartmann”, published in Munich in 1966, was created in memory of his father and brings together original graphic works by Joan Miro, Le Corbusier, Marino Marini, Antonio Saura, Emil Schumacher, Rupprecht Geiger, Ernst Wilhelm Nay and HAP Grieshaber, among others. With his memoir “Mein Vater und mein Onkel, der Maler” he contributed a personal perspective to Hartmann research and supported the digital opening up of the compositional estate by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek. In the summer of 2009 Mirjam Wiesemann held a conversation with him in his Munich flat about his father and his father’s circle; it appeared as Volume I of the Cybele Edition Künstler im Gespräch.
