Born 1644 in Algemesí near Valencia, died 1712 in Valencia; Juan Bautista Cabanilles was a Spanish organist, composer and priest of the Baroque. From 1666 he served as first organist of Valencia Cathedral, a post he held for decades. His extensive organ output, the tientos in particular, joins virtuoso craftsmanship to a characteristically Iberian sound. He also wrote sacred vocal works and polychoral compositions.
