Description

Strings attached brings together four different perspectives on the duo for violin and cello. Ignaz Joseph Pleyel’s Duo in C minor op. 30 No. 3 opens the programme; Jean Sibelius’s Canon in G minor JS 50 condenses the dialogue into a compact miniature.

Federigo Fiorillo’s Duo in C major op. 31 No. 1 foregrounds the virtuoso line and equality of the partners. Reinhold Glière’s Eight Duos op. 39 draw on the world of character pieces and form a sequence of distinctive musical snapshots.

Annette-Barbara Vogel and Fulbert Slenczka shape the programme as an immediate conversation between violin and cello. Their differentiated articulation makes audible both the cantabile closeness and the tension-filled independence of the two voices.
