Born in 1939; Jean-Pierre Leguay is a French organist, composer and improviser. He had organ lessons with André Marchal and Gaston Litaize; at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris he studied counterpoint with Simone Ple-Caussade, organ with Rolande Falcinelli and composition with Olivier Messiaen. There he won first prizes in organ, improvisation and composition, and he was awarded prizes at the international competitions of Lyon, Haarlem, Nice and Erding. From 1961 to 1984 he was organist at the church of Notre-Dame-des-Champs in Paris, and from 1985 to the end of 2015 titular organist of the Grandes Orgues of Notre-Dame de Paris; since then he has been titular organist emeritus there. From 1968 to 1989 he taught organ and improvisation at the Conservatoire National de Région de Limoges, and from 1989 to 2003 at the Conservatoire National de Région de Dijon. As a concert organist, composer and improviser he has appeared in Europe, Canada, the USA and Asia. Two albums connect him with Cybele, both from 2024: Sabine Sauer recorded Jean-Pierre Leguay: Momenti – Works for Piano, and Jean-Pierre Leguay: Jubilus brings together five chamber works with Sabine Sauer, Lili Bogdanova, Christina Singer, Nikola Lutz, Lucas Gerin, Nozomi Hiwatashi, Junyoung Kim and members of the SWR Symphonieorchester.
