With Gustav Holst’s The Planets and Paul Dukas’s L’apprenti sorcier, the second instalment of the series gives two masterpieces of orchestral literature a new, spatially conceived sound form. Jörg Endebrock, Susanne Rohn and Konrad Graf make Wiesbaden’s Lutherkirche itself an audible part of the interpretation.

In the dialogue between the two organs, Holst’s planetary character pictures emerge as vividly as Dukas’s dramatic tale of the sorcerer’s apprentice. The percussion extends the spectrum with precision, energy and sharply defined rhythmic accents without obscuring the organ sound’s independence.

The 3D binaural recording captures the acoustic breadth of the church interior with particular immediacy and, alongside stereo and surround, opens an independent perspective for headphone listening.
